Gawdzilla 16th January 2012, 06:54 PM Just a wish thread for movies. Mine: R. Lee Ermey and Tommy Lee Jones. Draftee runs into his old drill sergeant when the now-retired gunny sergeant moves into his town, and decides to get some long over-due revenge. However, the invasion of their neighborhood by skateboarders unites them. The resulting generational conflict escalates beyond all reason. borealis 16th January 2012, 07:17 PM Peter Jackson and Zombie Fellini make a movie from Clive Barker's Weaveworld. ericv00 16th January 2012, 07:20 PM A Knight to Remember A down-on-her-luck woman meets a man from another era, her knight in shining armor. Once the spambots find us page 1

oblivion 16th January 2012, 05:58 PM I think we should set up registrations so that new registrations need to be manually approved. Most sites that use the Q&A human verification process get between 3 and 20 spambot registrations per day. Recaptcha was getting more like 20-50 per day a year ago when we ditched it for Q&A at TR. Right now, no registration approval is required, which I hope is making it easier for people to come by and check MindRomp out as they hear about us. Gawdzilla 16th January 2012, 06:14 PM Very good idea. StopForumSpam is a good place to check suspicious applications, as you probably already know. oblivion 16th January 2012, 06:37 PM yep, that is one of my stops. nostrum 16th January 2012, 10:12 PM OK so you're thinking it needs to become manual now or very soon? I'll need a postcard explaining what I need to do, if me helping out would help. oblivion 16th January 2012, 10:16 PM not yet, but soon probably. I imagine we'll get our first s...

should members be able to change their votes in polls? page 1

oblivion 16th January 2012, 03:42 PM In the thread about showing member post counts, Seraph asked the following: ... Oh, and on a tangent: Can polls be configured to allow revoting? vanilla vbulletin doesn't have a member-vote-change feature. admins can change the vote tally if a person requests, but it's a manual thing and only affects the count, not the record of who voted for what. I found a vbulletin hack that allows members to change their votes. It also lets people write-in their own poll options and vote for it. When setting up the poll, it looks like the OPer can decide whether to enable vote-changing or not. An admin can modify this after the fact. http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=198535 The hack is for version 3.7, but from reading the replies, people have installed it on 3.8 versions successfully. Anyway, I figure step one is to talk about whether we'd like this functionality. ConvolutedLogic 16th January 2012, 03:48 PM I don...

What we need to know About speciation-FREE page 1

ConvolutedLogic 16th January 2012, 03:41 PM (2012). "What do we need to know about speciation?" Trends in ecology & evolution (Personal edition) 27(1): 27-39. Speciation has been a major focus of evolutionary biology research in recent years, with many important advances. However, some of the traditional organising principles of the subject area no longer provide a satisfactory framework, such as the classification of speciation mechanisms by geographical context into allopatric, parapatric and sympatry classes. Therefore, we have asked where speciation research should be directed in the coming years. Here, we present a distillation of questions about the mechanisms of speciation, the genetic basis of speciation and the relationship between speciation and diversity. Our list of topics is not exhaustive; rather we aim to promote discussion on research priorities and on the common themes that underlie disparate speciation processes. http://www.cell.com/trends/ecology...
