I think it is incredibly rewarding to be able to communicate with people from the forum community in live-time in a way that is not committed to public record.

Is there anyway we could get AJAX chat installed on MindRomp?

I had to vote yes, if I don't want to use it I don't have to!

Exactly, I don't see why it should be denied to people who very much like eachother, and would very much like to chat. I suppose there are other services to go to, but it would only strengthen the bonds of this community to have one built-in.

I don't have a strong opinion either way on a chat facility, as long as it isn't a shoutbox.

I think one question to consider regarding this (and other non bulletin board features), is this: How much of a one stop shop should MR strive to be?

Make it a shoutbox so I can bring the server to its knees like in the good old days of RnR!!

As for non-core forum features like chat rooms, blogs, portals, front pages et cetera, I can take them or leave them. While not inclined to avail myself to any of them, I have no objection to them being there for anyone else who is.

I'm okay with including it for those who want it .. I may even use it ... Will it cost extra?

Gonzo, please consider including a "neutral" and an "other" option in this kind of poll.

It may. Will have to do some research...

I say that a lot...

Isn't there a function for members to add choices, where did that go, is it because I have already voted, can I change my vote, that is a feature, yes, no ??

gonzo didn't check the change-vote option when he made the poll.

Gonzo, if you'd like, I can set the option for you.

I voted yes please, but would like to add a caveat.

If the server resources are available, fine. If it interferes with our primary goals, then no.

Oh, and provided the above is acknowledged, video with it please. I want to see boobies. Especially jiggling ones.

I voted yes. But I also agree the shoutbox set up sucks the big one.

Secular.chat was a cool chat set up, unfortunately it seems to be down or out of commission. I hadn't been there in a while, mostly because the age group had narrowed down to teens and young twenty somethings. It had cam capabilities too.

One of the fora I belong to uses FlashChat, which is pretty slick, and requires zero user configuration or login hassle. vBulletin may not support it, however, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Apparently FlashChat does integrate with vBulletin. Just FYI, for the sake of options...

It has "module packs" for .mp3, whiteboard, ads, etc., but its video module requires Flash Media Server. If video content (of whatever format) has to be delivered in a Flash container, then maybe this isn't a good option, as it seems limiting. I don't know much about this stuff, though, but I do know that if Flash is my only video option, I become very un-mellow.

Also, FlashChat itself is :drumroll: Flash-based, but I don't know enough about that to know if that's a good or bad thing, or what the implications would be for Oblivion's admin-ing.

yep, I dislike shout boxes. I might use another chat thing, so I certainly won't vote no. I guess I don't see it as that important at the mome

I put a vote down so I can see the poll results without another click. It's not that I don't care, more that I don't want to dilute the results.
