It seems to me, at a glance, that if someone is politicking while claiming they are a tax-exempt church, they are stealing from America. This means a crime against all 300-million of you. Aren't some of you armed? Can't you defend yourselves?
What are your thoughts on this? Not being from the US may give me a warped perspective...

Since when does taxation equal the end of free speech in the first place? If it did, would not all US citizens be bereft of it, and the relevant bit in the constitution a dead letter right from its inception?
Since a few years ago, we have a similar law in Australia. It applies to secular charities as well as church owned ones.

It's about this (http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=161131,00.html) 1954 amendment to the tax law.

Sounds like the churches want to go back to the heyday where they can say that adulterers, fornicators, sodomites and persons of a different colour are sinners and are burning in hell. I completely agree with the IRS but wish they'd enforce it a bit more efficiently. There are countless not-for-profit organisations that lobby Congress.
I wish we had such an iron ruling here too. One of the strongest lobby groups in Australia is the Australian Christian Lobby led by the homophobic "Reverend" Jim Wallace, a despicable piece of shit who inserts himself into every debate that even slightly touches on church-state separation.
Meantime the head of the Queensland Scripture Union, Tim Mander (ex-NRL referee), is running for Queensland Parliament in the upcoming election. Boy, he'd make a great Education Minister.

We also have the National President of the Christian Democratic Party, the reverend Fred Nile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Nile), member of the upper house of the New South Wales parliament since 1981. He only briefly vacated his seat in 2004 when he stood for the federal Senate, which he narrowly failed to win.
The Christian Democratic Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Democratic_Party_%28Australia%29) is thoroughly theocratic: "The party exists to support Christian representation in every level of government – Federal, State and Local.
The party claims to support policies that promote Christian values, are supportive of family values, protective of children and their rights including those of unborn children, and policies that are protective of established Australian values and systems, inclusive of a requirement that immigrants to Australia demonstrate a desire to learn English.
The party opposes abortion, euthanasia, pornography, homosexuality, adultery, incest, and Islam..."

I don't really see a problem with the law as it stands now. So, currently churches must choose between taking partisan political stands and being tax exempt? Ok, fine, I'm good with that. I don't think churches ought to be that political, so I won't sign the petition.

Even when I was attending the local fundie independent baptist church I thought tax-exemption was dumb and churches shouldn't take it.
As for talking politics from the pulpit I don't really care. They have a right to express their opinions. And there is a long history of pastors and preachers talking politics from the pulpit.

They still do it, but when they are a political action group, they should be taxed differently than if they are a 'house of worship', don't you think?

I think so.
Everybody has a right to freedom of speech.
But there is no right to freedom of speech and being tax exempt.

I never canvassed that issue with any of them. Any party that supports the principle regarding what consenting adults do in private is of no government's business, ought to have at least a hands-off (chuckle) stance on it, but I doubt we have any that might be that consistent.
Are there any in the US?

Are you fucking kidding me? The Republicans have a plank to legalize hauling gays behind pickups.
Any party that said incest "might not be that bad" would be through. We do have NAMBLA (with Canada) though, the North American Man-Boy Love Association though it's not a true political party. That's about as close as we get to an pro-incest party (though they don't advocate it, as far as i know).

I spit on my skeezer-pleaser and, prying her ass cheeks apart like a hot dinner roll, drove it home, into the biggest browneye I had ever seen. She gurgled contentedly. Every thrust of my babymaker was met with a wrenched squeal as I grabbed her by the hips and began really leaning into it.
‘Harder!’ she begged, ‘Harder!! Tell me what you think of Chomsky!’

That is some of the worst writing ever, right up there with Bulwer-Lytton... if it doesn't beat him.
