I had an exciting 20 minutes today! page 1

First! When I got off work today I was walking to my car in the parking lot...look both ways before crossing where cars drive who are looking for parking spaces, right? No cars coming. So this woman zooms out between 4 parked cars, missing me by inches. Literally, inches! And the bitch does not even acknowledge it! I was pretty stunned.

Then, 20 minutes later on my way home, this teeny tiny chihuahua leaps out in front of me! I didn't hit it and I pulled over to try to capture it cos it is a busy street and I didn't want it to get hit. This guy had the same idea and every time we got near it, it ran further out into the road. I was alternately trying to catch it and flag down cars by throwing myself in front of them (hoping that they would have more consideration than the woman earlier) and then the dog disappeared into an apartment complex. The cars resumed and it took awhile before I could catch up to it and I never did cos it disappeared. I hope that the dog is okay. :(

I had a similar 20 minutes of knicker-wrenching excitement yesterday afternoon!

In the supermarket I was walking down an aisle behind one of those old-people-scooters driven at 0.25 the speed of walking by some doddering old coot. He was driving it right down the centre of the aisle so I couldn't get around him. I practiced my Gonzo ZenTM and patiently followed him. All of a sudden (well, not really given the pace he was going) he stops and then puts his foot down hard on the accelerator and REVERSES back up the aisle without looking in his fogey rear-view mirrors (which I'm sure he thinks are just hat hangers or something) and I had to yell out and hit the back of his fracking scooter to stop him reversing over my daughter. He just looked at me blithely with his rheumy grey eyes as he continued reversing at 50kph down the aisle.

THEN on the way home I had to swerve the car to avoid a snake that was sunning itself on the road. It started moving as I approached, so I was worried I had run over it and did a u-turn to make sure it was OK.

See? Our stories are identical. IDENTICAL!

do you think I should back off the caffeinated coca cola?

Not identical; dogs don't taste like chicken.

Seriously, good for both of you for taking such care.

Was there a full moon today? The whole world seemed to go mad. I'm on holiday at the moment, and the friend I'm staying with said she went out on a shopping expedition earlier on. She was driving around in a car park and couldn't find a space but said some silly cow on foot came out from nowhere and virtually threw herself under the car! Apparently the woman wasn't even looking ahead when she nearly got hit. Just swivelling her head from one side to the other all time.

Now, would you believe this, 20 minutes later my friend was looking down from our apartment building and very the very same silly cow she nearly ran over in the car park had jumped out of her car and proceeded to chase a bloody chihuahua backwards and forward across the road in front of all the busy traffic! The woman had even roped in some other poor unsuspecting bloke in her backwards-and-forwards antics. And it transpires she wasn't even the owner of the chihuahua, the dog eventually looked up as if to say, 'Sod this' and ran into the apartment block nearby where it lives apparently. Then the woman drove off as if nothing had happened!

I tell you, there are some right nutters out there. None of us are safe. None of us.

I don't see Exi5stentialist's post as an attempt to ridicule, and I hope Divagreen doesn't either.

Good thing about the stories is that nobody got hurt, no damage was done, and Exi's alternative version gave me a good laugh.

No, but feelings are easily hurt and I should be careful. First thing this morning a woman from the neighbouring block called at our door, saying that her chihuahua had been surfing the web looking for road safety tips and came across this thread. She said the poor dog was in tears, and that I really should grow up because life for the wretched thing is difficult enough without people like me making it feel small.

Diva', I'm glad you're alive but you have to admit it would have been pretty cool if you had been hit and lost an arm so you could get a bionic arm and fight crime bionic style!
