First up: an Australian film you've seen recently

1 Beneath Clouds (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295876/) .. bleak and beautiful movie about the impact of circumstance and personality on lives and relationships

2. The Roly Poly Man (http://www.memorabletv.com/dvdreviews042/rolypolyman.htm) ...a very strange movie, IMO extremely funny and the pinnacle of Australian film noir spoof. I've seen it twice, I think it's brilliant.

I haven't seen it recently, but it is the most recent Australian film that I have seen a couple of months ago, The Tunnel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735485/). It is pretty good, but this is probably one of the most interesting things about the film:

From Wiki:

The film has been noted for its modes of release and distribution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_distributor). In addition to its conventional modes of release, including a limited Australian theatrical release, screenings on Showtime Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showtime_Australia), and an Australian and New Zealand DVD release through Paramount Pictures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramount_Pictures) Australia and Transmission Films, the film has garnered much attention for its unconventional release through BitTorrent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_%28company%29). The Tunnel is the first Australian film to be distributed and promoted legally through the BitTorrent internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet) downloading (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Download) platform, a release strategy which could potentially expose the film to tens of millions of people, for free.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tunnel_%282011_film%29#cite_note-smh-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tunnel_%282011_film%29#cite_note-h-reporter-2) This free and legal online release is a cooperation between the filmmakers, peer-to-peer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer) distribution platform VODO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VODO) and BitTorrent Inc., which is distributing the film through an app (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software) on its client (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client_%28computing%29).[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tunnel_%282011_film%29#cite_note-giga-4)
On 18 May 2011 The Tunnel had its official premiere at Event Cinemas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event_Cinemas), Bondi Junction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bondi_Junction,_New_South_Wales), at a Popcorn Taxi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn_Taxi) screening and Q&A (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q%26A) event, and was also released simultaneously on DVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD), TV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV) and BitTorrent.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tunnel_%282011_film%29#cite_note-giga-4)

10. Morning of the Earth

Not your run-of-the-mill surf film. It was shot with a 16mm camera in 1972. You won't hear any spoken words of any kind, and apart from the credits bookending the piece you won't see any written ones either. The film was made by surfers for surfers who don't care for competitions; a mood piece for those who regard surfing not as an activity, but a lifestyle.

It's the only film I have watched more than once at the cinema. A videotape of it did not become available until about 15 years after its cinema run finished, and its release on DVD took place around another ten years after that. I got the lot, of course, as each appeared. And the soundtrack on vinyl... and cassette tape... and CD... and a poster of the film from a shop window...

In short, I think it's kind of OK.

How one Congressman brought down the USSR. The film finished on a sad note: Having won the war, the US government walked away from the opportunity to win the people in Central Asia.
