I generally choose my avatars so that whatever is in them is facing towards the text. That way it looks like my avatar is doing the talking! If I find something I like a lot but which is looking the wrong way, I download it and flip the image to make it work.
Does anybody else have this as a consideration when selecting avatars?

Sometimes. Sometimes I like for the avatar to look straight ahead, directly at the reader.
Way back when I had a series of avatars that were stills from an old black and white movie. Each image was of the same persion, but facing different directions and with different facial expressions. I didn't notice what I was doing at first, but the order in which I changed the avatar caused her to spin completely around, with her expression going from calm to frenzied.

Dammit, I never noticed before. Now all my comments will look like they've been posted by a self-absorbed, overly-emotional soap-opera queen who gives not two shits about what other people have to say.

Hopefully not representing your actual emotional state. :p

I actually own this album. It was in my family since before I was born. It's pretty bizarre.

Thanks for this, I've turned my avatar round. But now it looks like I don't know whether I'm coming or going.
