I thought it was thinning, no, um. Anyway, one of those words that make perfect sense in context but can be difficult to pin down, like bead and beading.

If anyone is interested, they can give me a linky thinky to the beady thread. I got more info, but haven't really focused on finding it.

Anyway, I have in my Hand a Real Book----
The Oxford English Reference Book.
One of many different interesting big, big books I got when I was in the Folio Book Club.

Attenuate verb & adjective.
1/ Make thin
2/ reduce in force, value or virulence
3/ reduce the amplitude of.
Attenuated
1/ slender
2/tapering gradually
3/rarefied.

Finds it unquestionable that men (instantly) and women (if prompted) will have no difficulty conceiving of sexual acts concerning said potatoes, but will be naturally reticent about making any transition to the verbalisation of such... waits for results of sampling.

Was once threatened with legal action by a four-year old in mid-tantrum. "You'll hear... sob... from my... sob... lawyer, you bitch! You'll never work in this town again!" (resume kicking exterior wall and pounding grass while in prone position).

(had given this normally well-behaved if repressed child a 2 minute timeout for some minor iniquity)
