ATLANTA — A judge has ordered President Barack Obama to appear in court in Atlanta for a hearing on a complaint that says Obama isn't a natural-born citizen and can't be president.

The hearing is set for Thursday before an administrative judge. Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi on Friday denied a motion by the president's lawyer to quash a subpoena that requires Obama to show up.Looks like voters do have standing.

That old canard again. I'd call it abuse of due process.
It's one of many such lawsuits that have been filed across the country, so far without success. A Georgia resident made the complaint, which is intended to keep Obama's name off the state's ballot in the March presidential primary.

The issue of McCain having been born in Panama didn't spawn a movement.

The (non)issue of Obama having allegedly been born somewhere other than Hawaii spawned a movement.

Racism seems the most likely explanation for that difference.

No, it has to do with Obama's father being a Subject of the British Crown when Obama was born. 'Natural born citizen' refers to a natural alliance to a nation at birth, not where someone is born. Obama was born with dual alliance and dual citizenship.

The claim is not that he is not a citizen.

No. Most of the noise made by the birther movement is about Obama's place of birth. Specifically, they generally deny that he was born in Hawai'i.

Only the very persistent birthers, having had their claims about Obama's birthplace debunked, move on to such desperate measures as trying to pretend that being a "natural born citizen" of the US could possibly mean anything different from being a US citizen by birth, or that it could possibly exclude someone born on US soil to a mother who's a US citizen.

No such desperation was ever on display by anyone talking about McCain's candidacy.

Hence the suspicion that racism plays a role.

The first law suit was brought by the former asst Attorney General of Pennsylvania, a Democrat, a lifetime ACLU member and a Clinton supporter, during the nomination process. The nationality of his father and his being born a Subject of the British Crown has always been the problem.

Waste of time and money. SCOTUS needs to hear this on an expedited basis and rule, once and for all, exactly what "natural born" means. Otherwise we'll just keep dealing with this horseshit, over and over again.

EDIT the worst part of this is those of us who oppose Obama on political and philosophical grounds are tarred with the "birther" and/or "racist" brush. I don't like the guy's politics, I wouldn't like his politics if he was a 3 foot 2 inch green dwarf born on the ISS to an Orion slave girl and a Romulan.
