I use my laptop and cell phone mostly. I'm in the progress of figuring out where a galaxy tab fits into the ecosystem. DH is planning to replace his early stone age Nook with something that has browser capability, possibly going all the way to a kindle fire though we don't really need an underpowered tablet.
There's a whole apple-ish world out there that I have never touched in terms of web access.

I know that touch screen is a skill I need to learn, which do you think would best the best option?
oblivion
21st January 2012, 04:45 AM
dunno. you might want to transition with a phone that has a pull-out keyboard. I went that route when I decided to get a smartphone. that rules out the iPhone.
but, the iPhone is probably friendlier and easier to learn if you're not a geek.

I am getting that the apps are the important thing, thus it doesn't matter much which touch phone i get, yes?
oblivion
21st January 2012, 05:27 AM
correct. the big question is which operating system. then you pick the phone with the hardware features you want.

then you have the iPhone as an option. I would compare that to their high end android phones - probably the Samsung Galaxy S2 with sprint and maybe the Droid Razr with verizon and see which you prefer.

I surf with...
Asus MB with Hexa-core 1044t AMD chip
8gb ram
ASUS Radeon 1gb 5770 video
Blinky blue, green and red disco lights in the tower
10,000 RPM main drive with adequate back-up
Dual monitors (1 x 21" + 1 x 17")
Comfort-curve keyboard
Bamboo pen and touch input
And this new mouse...

The old mouse behind it is still good...guess I'll take it to work. Here, you can see it fading away...

The new mouse does 5600 dpi and tracks at an astonishing 6m/s. A have more RAM than god. I have to go develop some skill in my game or this could be a bit embarrassing...

Oh, and I also surf with a Palm Pre (WebOS) and a Acer notebook. When none of these are on, my ear hairs pick up vibrations from stray electrical signals, allowing me read-only access to the interwebz.

iPhone while still in bed or out and about. I post with the phone sometimes, but editing is a royal pain in the ass. Mostly I use my MacBook Air, connected to a 20" Apple monitor, but oddly, I'll still check my email using the phone.

I use iMac desktop mainly - laptop otherwise (likely iPad 3 in the not-too-distant future).

Mouse? It looks like a weapon that could destroy whole solar systems. Wowzers!

Home-built desktop computer, running Windows 7 64-bit. Built especially for 3d gaming... so of course it can handle most anything else pretty well too.
Sometimes I surf on an older home-built desktop running Linux (Ubuntu 10.04).
Yes, all my computers are home-built. I don't believe in buying PCs, just the parts to build them. They're all AMD-based. Nothing against Intel, but AMD is what I'm used to working with. And they're all desktops. I don't own anything smaller or more portable. Well, a cell phone, but it's just a basic phone, not a smart phone, and I can't surf with it.

Pretty much the same as before. I have an new android phone, the galaxy s3. I don't use the galaxy tab as much as I thought I would on a daily basis, but it was great when I was recovering from surgery and when I was on vacation. hbo go ftw.
