A front page or portal page 1

Right now, mindromp.org is a page with a few meaningless links. I didn't make this the url for the forum itself because I think we'll want some sort of front page or portal for guests especially but also for members.

I thought that it could be a place for us to display the vision and links to rules, the "quiz" or checklist, the registration page, etc.

Anyway, I've found a free portal app that we could use for this purpose along with providing a sort of dashboard of what is going on in the forum.

This product is free. I'm not sure, but I think it's the portal that FF uses. I'll have a look around at other free portal apps designed specifically for vbulletin sites.

Yep, thumbs up to this idea, too.

If we want a portal, pure and simple, I think vbadvanced is the way to go.

However, If we also want a CMS (content management system), then vb drupal looks pretty powerful and it's free. From what I've read, vbadvanced is super easy to install and easy to configure. vb drupal looks more complicated.

I think it really depends on how complex we want the front page(s) to be.

Can we uninstall one and install the other at some future point, if we want to?

Yes. They can both be uninstalled. I've been trying to think what we would do with a CMS. Articles, essays, blogs, etc. There are a zillion places for blogs and most people who want a blog have one already. vbadvanced is more about repurposing forum content than about housing additional content, and that may be all we need.

I like the idea of having an addition to a forum that includes articles, essays and blogs, actually. Kinda like a trove of community news/opinion columns for individuals to create and contribute to ... Doesn't Freethought Forum have something along those lines? I like the extra dimension it adds ...

I think the article stuff is vbulletin-based, but I could be wrong.

eta but really all I wanted was someone to say "yeah that might be worth having a look at". I'll do some more research this weekend.

Reading up on vbDrupal, it looks like a lot of sites are moving away from it. There are some long-term bugs/inadequacies that have not been addressed.

I decided to install vbadvanced and see how it works. I'm still learning the configuration, but have been able to add some content just to show a little of what can be done. Have a look. http://mindromp.org

we can configure more pages as we figure out what else we'd like up front that way.
