Part of me is sad I won't see any clever avatars, but happy there won't be any more damn sparkles.

I am torn between two equally powerful yet entirely opposite emotions...

Hmm I can't recall any early discussion of it. Might be oversight. Raise it at the next GM, assuming you fill out the B6 form the requisite three months in advance.

It is currently turned off. I have this vague recollection that we discussed animated avatars at the early planning site. When we started here we were initially going to require that all images be hosted offsite, including avatars. When we decided to turn avatars on, I left the animation permissions off.

Personally, I dislike animated avatars because if the flicker is fast and the contrast is high, they can trigger migraines. browser plug-ins with ad-block have to some degree alleviated that concern. Most people (including me) who are susceptible to flashing avs can block them with a mouseclick. So can people who just don't like them.

If we have a way of avoiding distress to sensitive people, yes. If not, I can live without it. :]

Let's gets some feedback first, I think. Just because I can zorch animated avatars in my browser doesn't mean there aren't some members chained to IE 6.5 or something.

Thank you :-)! FWIW and in the off-chance that it isn't completely obvious - though I'm sure it is - the prime focus and raison d'être of said image is to display the tux I was married in.

Yes, I rather thought you might appreciate my tux - indeed I suspect you might like many tuxes like that... definitely not to imply that all tuxes look the same, of course ;-).

When setting up the poll, it looks like the OPer can decide whether to enable vote-changing or not.
