A few things...

1) I am sad (but not ashamed) that I am in no position at the moment to make payments toward the running of this new venture. My current bank account balance in NZ is $59.22. We will have a hearty Christmas due to the charity of friends and the Salvation Army who donated a hamper to us, but we have no money. Also, I will not be around much because I have just 2GB a month to work from at the moment, but life is getting easier as we get money together.

2) The founders, and no one else, will always be welcome under my roof for fun, chat and hospitality. I don't have much to show my gratitude for your bravery and thrusting fortitude, but my cheap wine and company is yours for the taking.

3) I am irrationally delighted that Mindromp was chosen as the forum name - a suitable juxtaposition of the intellectual and the profane, to paraphrase Fantasia...

Love and best wishes to you all for the days ahead...

I don't know what to say. We too have had excellent Christmasses thanks to the Salvos. Good people. I hope you can spare a tiny fraction of your 2Gb to check in every now and then. If the Great Avatar Schism can be put on hold for a while and we keep no avatars that shouldn't make a visit here too bandwidth heavy.

I know I look forward to your input.

Ditto.

devogue, if I knew you were having a rough time, I would have gladly helped. You may just have more friends than you ever knew.

As to the Salvation Army - you folks nailed it - good people. The organization itself is disgusting, poisonous and spiteful, but it attracts some of the kindest people one can find.

If we DO decide to have avatars, I hope we can offer a low-bandwidth solution for folks in weird situations like devogue.

To disable images, go to Edit Options on the User Control Panel, scroll down to near the bottom. There are 3 check boxes for viewing avatars, sigs and images. unclick the ones you don't want to see.

Devogue, I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch at this time of year.

Dev, (((hugs))) for being broke right now. It's lovely and heart warming to hear you'll have a nice Xmas and that there is a true secular spirit of Xmas alive and well.

Your kids I bet will find their first hot southern hemi Xmas one to remember!

I hope your 2Gb stretches far :)

I heard there was an earthquake. You okay pal?The latest earthquakes happened in and around Christchurch again. Devogue lives several hundred kilometres to the north, so I guess his holidays will be uninterrupted by them.

All the best, Devogue. As a present to you I'll inaugurate the ignore feature by installing the first member on it. ;)

A belated thanks to all of you. Christmas was wonderful, my excellent new boss bonused me enough to remove any immediate financial pressure, we have shuffled our funds and budgeted well. We have found an extra $20 per month to get on Telecom NZs 20GB plan (makes skyping home and youporn easier).

I am ready to post heavily, narcissistically and brilliantly on subjects as varied as the greatness of Rioja to the question of Stephen Hawking's electronic hard ons.

Okay, so when we are ready to go, how do we do it?

I would like to PM War Arrow and Bess at TAF, perhaps Poopshoot and iatheist as well. One or two people at Rationalia as well - perhaps we should just PM whoever we are fond of and like - something along the lines of:

"You know some of us have been unhappy with certain aspects of forum life for a while, so we decided to do something positive about it after accepting that most people enjoy the way things are here currently. Here's a little something we have been working on; feel free to look around:

I'd still like to post an open invitation to everyone at rationalia ... from me personally.

I think that's a good idea, but please consider this:

I reckon that you should talk to Pappa first and agree the content of your invite. That will show a level of courtesy and understanding - Mindromp could be a damp squib, or it could seriously rock the boat at Rationalia, affecting things like post activity and the overall dynamic.

If Pappa is cool about you posting a general invite, it would be great if he gave it his blessing - I think he will, because the chances are higher this forum will bomb and Rationalia will continue to flourish (in an ideal world we'll both do well), and it will mean that our relationship with Rationalia will get off on a good footing.

Also, I would request that your thread be instantly locked and that all of us here refrain from any reference to mindromp on Rationalia for an initial period of one month. That's not to say that you can't post on Rationalia if you want to - just don't mention mindromp and give the Ratz who want to talk about mindromp (positively or negatively) the space to do so in their own threads on their own forum and in their own time.

I understand what you're saying dev ... As I said, I've talked with Pappa a little about the new forum already .. general stuff, like our ethos .. no details or disclosure of who's here ... his response was positive, understanding and supportive.

I hope to, and think I can, post an invitation in a way that builds a bridge rather than burns one.

I will speak with Pappa again first.
