I think this idea has been fermenting for a while...
Imagine the inevitable... Objectionable ...offensive...entirely legal posts.
The tools are
- ignore
- place on ignore list
- appeal to reason
- retaliate
- add your own addition
With respect to # 2, how about a stickied thread to post who has been placed on ignore, by whom and why. Completely voluntary ... A way to advertise objectionable behavior and the power of the ignore function. To be modeled by admin. if aza came along and posted enough objectionable pics imo, I would definitely place him on ignore because I don't want to be looking at that shit.
Just musing....

There used to be a tr meme: plonk. The sound one made when hitting another poster's ignore list. Usually the person would quote the offending post before invoking deafening silence. It became less effective over time, mostly because people didn't follow through with ignore for long.
I find that ignoring threads is usually more helpful than ignoring people.

I'm not keen on an ignore list being publicised. It can become a 'me too' type of mob mentality.
It's a private decision as to who/what to ignore, so why publicise it?

Of course, if a member decides to start such a thread, then of course freedom of speech and all that...

Regarding images ... as discussed before, admins spoilering images is an option. Another, less arbitrary one is having the spoiler added as the default ... even compulsory ... when any image is posted .. is that technically possible, ob? But that latter idea wouldn't help as the person who posts a potentially offensive image may not post a warning.
As has been mentioned before, members also have the option of turning images off ... but that would then hide all images.
In my experience, images posted simply for shock/disgust value are really only an occasional problem. Spamming with such images and problematic links can go on for an annoying length of time though. We might consider removing an image/link spammer's ability to post images and links for 24 hours if we're having trouble keeping up with spoilering (or removing if illegal) them. If that's all that poster has ever contributed, they can justifiably be defined as a spammer and their account banned.
Thoughts?

^ Although I'm an advocate of open discussion about anything, including problematic behaviour. Such conversations can arise at any point.

Hmmm... That's a much better line of thinking... Fuck yes...
So aza , bless him, comes along and posts all the crap at his disposal.. Someone starts a thread.."What the fuck Aza.." sorted. I like.

How about spoilering upon ANY (public) request? (even if I the admin request it and I the admin spoiler it)

No, that's also open to abuse. You'll get some dick who's had their pic spoilered requesting everyone else's pictures be spoilered too. I think a case by case basis with people who don't get their way (or people who disagree with the spoilering) encouraged to throw it open to the forum. If, after a discussion, minds are changed then so can the spoiler situation.

I just checked "ignore" on tapatalk and it works fine, except in that the ignored member's posts still appear in the thread preview if it was the last posted.
Otherwise, there is no reference to the ignored posts when viewing the thread, unlike when browsing normally.
