Damn good job so far. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute soon. Got off on the wrong foot, though. First, I specified the wrong (and non-existing) email addy, so I never got the activation link. Charlou fixed that for me. Then I had a look around in the ACP and discovered that I can access only some parts of it. Learning curve, I suppose.

I love it. instead of constantly zooming in and out between the size needed to hit tiny buttons and a comfortable size for reading, tapatalk has all the buttons there and in appropriate size. And I have a directory of all the forums I read that have tapatalk installed, I can get to any of them with another finger-tap. The interface differences between phpbb and vbulletin are mostly gone, replaced with the Tapatalk interface.
Over time, I've found that I spend a lot more time on the forums where I have tapatalk available, even when I'm not phoneposting. Force of habit, I guess.
tapatalk is actually the only app that I've paid for in about a year and a half with a smart phone. It was well spent. I'm getting a galaxy tab in a day or 2, and it will be one of the first apps I install.

Sometime today I am going to add a lightweight style template that you can use on mobile devices. See how you like that before you decide about tapatalk. To me, the main advantage of tapatalk is the consolidation of 5-6 forums I visit daily into one easy, intuitive app. It may not be worth it if you'll only use it for 1 or 2 message boards.

Yes. How is she?
Mobility is getting better, so that's good.
OTOH, there's still more than a reasonable amount of pain. She can bring the pain level down by imitating a blob and doing absolutely nothing for a day or two, but that's not really ideal. The docs are all freaked out about how long she has been on all these opioids, and keep wanting to reduce her dosages.
So, mixed.

Long time ago she was hit by a car while crossing the street (legitimately, in a crosswalk). The acetabulum (that's the part of the pelvis that the femur fits into -- i.e. the "socket" of the ball-and-socket hip joint) was kinda smashed up, but was reconstructed.
Things were sort of ok for a while but the pain came back. Prolly some sort of arthritis was setting in. It was concluded that a hip replacement would be a good move. (Remove the upper part of the femur, replace it with an implant that fits inside the remainder of the femur.)
December 2013 hip replacement was botched. She was in horrible unbearable pain immediately upon waking up from the surgery. It didn't let up. It turns out that they had put in an implant that was too big for her, and it was stretching all the tendons in her leg.
March 2016 was the "revision" surgery. Some cutting of the bone was required to get the too-big implant out of her. New implant was put in. Pieces of bone were arranged around the new implant with some extra hardware to hold them in place. It was expected that those pieces of bone would all fuse together. But they haven't. So when she puts weight on the bad leg now, there's a relatively small part of the femur that's holding onto the new implant, with the interface between them taking the weight. Kinda scary.
It isn't completely clear what's keeping the pain level so high, but there's some suspicion that it has something to do with the way that the extra hardware (mentioned above) ended up orienting itself.
Anyway, as bad as it is, the pain is far less than it was for the 27 months between the surgeries.

The surgeon isn't keen on operating again. There are some things that could theoretically be done with some chance of making things better, but the overall risk/reward balance doesn't feel right to him.

The mind of a surgeon is inscrutable.
But every time you open someone up, there are risks. Infections in particular can be really disastrous in cases like this, in joints with artificial parts.
And I guess he just didn't think the chance of improving things was very high.

Oh they don't have to be kinky, either.
Duct tape and handcuffs are really multi-purpose.

OMgods girl you can buy rings cheap.
Even the engagement rings I have gotten, much less any other rings from guys, were dirt cheap. I think the most a guy spent on a ring for me and that was an engagement ring was maybe 30 bucks if that? Most of the rings, engagement or otherwise, were under 20.

You never wear rings?
I love to wear them because I can't wear most jewelry. Have to get the rings large enough to go over my knuckle, but I can at least wear them. Most bracelets are out because I have large wrists. I have to wear a man's wristwatch if I wear a watch. Earrings are out, because I found out after I got my ears pierced that I am allergic to them. I could go back to clip on I guess.
So rings and necklaces are about the only forms of jewelry I can wear.

LOL well it will seem odd when you are married if you are not wearing a wedding band. It is not so much showing off, as it kind of lets others know oh yeah she is married I guess I won't hit on her.
I remember going with my BFF for a beer in a bar in Oakdale, and this dude came up and started flirting like mad with Diana and she was like showing her engagement ring in his face, and saying my FIANCE over and over again, finally she looked at him and said my friend here is single you could ask HER out.
Dude looked at me then went back to trying to convince Diana he was better than the guy she was with. Totally made me feel like crap of course
Uggh I hated it when stuff like that happened when Diana and I went out.

Even if you're into wearing a band, in many situations it isn't advisable at all, as rings are notorious for ripping fingers off if caught on something job or sports related.

yeah most of the women I know work jobs like office work, teaching, stuff like that. I don't know a lot of women who work heavy manual labor jobs. And yeah obviously if you are doing sports you take off what you can. That was why when I was a kid, I had to wear safety goggles sometimes for PE sports because I could not take off my glasses and still be able to see.

Let me say I would not wear rings or earrings working with young children. I did for a while, until one of them accidentally ripped my earring right through my earlobe.
It doesn't have to be a 'heavy manual job', just one around moving equipment or working with tools or automated processes. I knew a guy who lost a finger jumping off a balcony into a snowdrift - his ring caught on something.

well some of my first cousins are closer to niece/nephew age. They range from Clarissa who will be 32 in a few days to Scot who will be 40 next October. so I was from almost 12 to 19 when they were born. And they grew up a lot with my son being not much older than him, particularly Clarissa, Rebecca, and David Joseph. who were from 17 months to 4 years older than Ben growing up.

My Goddess Son Aiben is 7 though I rarely see him even though we live not that far away because Cat's friend has yet to pick up the Kia and fix it for her so she has a working car, and I can't drive up to the mountains just a bit outside of Benton where she lives. Last time I talked to her she was in the mood to retreat from pretty much everyone, and is seriously thinking of moving herself maybe up north somewhere or back to Scotland.

Given the somewhat alarmingly small gene pool that produced my sister and me, they're probably a bit closer than average. Fortunately sister married outside the clan. Oldest daughter was very like me as a child, am tempted sometimes to see her as the advanced and much improved model.

bor that reminds me so much of a book in the Warlock in Spite of Himself Series by Christopher Stasheff. The oldest son Magnus, after some bad experiences at the home planet, decides to leave and go visiting other planets. First place he goes to, is the family asteroid. Its a small colony that is fairly inbred due to a small population and all of them are some kind of nobility of some sort.
One of the cousins, a young female is totally head over heels for the young man, and as he points out to his robot, even though it is an instinct to outbreed, in this case, it would not be since he is her cousin lol. Magnus does leave the planet, with a brand new spaceship with new robot installed, and he sends the old trusty FESS back home to dad and the rest of his family on Gramarye where he grew up.
He then ends up sort of following in his dad's footsteps but with his own twist lol. Hopping from planet to planet that has regressed to an earlier more oppressive government and helps them evolve toward a more democratic form of government.
Unlike his father though, he did not stick with SCENT (Society for Conversion of Extraterrestrial Nascent Totalitarianisms) but was a rogue wizard. Eventually, after many adventures, he did find a woman who fit what he needed and who was able to unlock his heart, and took her home to meet the parents and the siblings 10 years after he left the home planet.

Well no, my family really does come from a small gene pool, but there are no signs of mental stagnation, nor are they conservative or socially backward. We just tend to have poor eyesight, thin fine hair, narrow sinuses, and the occasional pigeon chest. And a tendency for the men to die very suddenly in early middle age of an as yet unknown heart condition.

Rach, it is pretty common for people to not wear wedding rings. Plus Kami is right.
i think it's true that you don't need to show off your status. but that if you are engaged/married... having some form of ring on your ring finger will help to signal that you are in a relationship.
to be honest, i am not sure why you wouldn't want to wear a ring on your finger?
why would you want to have others getting the wrong impression?

Mantis, the points against wearing jewelry is that it can catch on things and cause physical harm to the wearer.
Also rings to tight have had to be cut off more than once.
I don't wear any jewelry, not a watch not a ring, nothing.
Not everyone likes things hanging off them dangling off them.
I remember being on an island in Thailand wearing earbuds listening to a walkman.
Stopped to pet a monkey and it ripped the earplugs out and wrecked them in one swift grab.
