Inaccessible to Bots and Guests? page 1

I've made the Rompus Room forum invisible to bots/guests/non-members.
I don't know if that is a good idea. Firstly, what is the rationale behind this decision? Secondly, it will be difficult to move threads from the Rompus Room to more appropriate subforums in the future. Thirdly, should it be decided that the Rompus Room ought to be open to be read by bots and guests, the above decision will be difficult to reverse once a significant number of posts have been added while it was closed to nonmembers.

I think we need to discuss what subforums, if any, should be inaccessible to bots and guests. Hence this post.

It definitely does impact the ease of moving threads.

Maybe make the Rompus Room accessible to bots and guests pending further discussion?

I am not against restricting viewability of subforums per se. We might have one specifically dedicated to personal issues members have, that they wish to discuss among forum members, but are uncomfortable with them being accessible via search engines, for example. The Rompus Room, however, seems too broad in scope to be suitable for such a restriction. I think of it as a subforum for general chitchat. Most of its content is not likely to be sensitive information in any way.

have a poll on the rompus room, then? I can understand ob wanting to implement stuff here, because it's easy for discussion to just tail off and no clear mandate emerge

permissions change is undone. I thought the RR was being used as a sort of lounge, but without an open forum dedicated to miscellaneous discussions it would default to both, I think.

I agree ... A separate members' only and/or support type subforum would be better.

I prefer non-members can see as much as possible of what's available here, including threads just for fun, ie Rompus Room stuff.

I think there should be somewhere members can post that is not searchable by non-members.

We could make a subforum of the RR intended for more personal things from the start, hidden from bots and guests. Maybe give it a clever name like "<3 The Rump Room <3", though that might bias it towards nudes.

So long as we have an "Official Hot Men Thread (hot and bothered), then we're good.

Again, just want to point out that privacy will remain up to the individual to control via what they choose to disclose, regardless where it's posted. Most people respect privacy, but it's not a rule to do so here.

I think a subforum of the Rompus Room is a better idea than making the entire Rompus Room content members only.

^ agree! Shall we put a vote on it? Or just set the damn thing up? Or wait til ob gets sick of all the discussion and no action and just does it?

Name it 'Classic Particle Physics'

Anybody likely to click it out of interest is unlikely to want to share the information inside.

I think it's done ... I've given it the same permissions as the techy tacky subforum .. I think.
