i like it. The head and especially the wings are great. I like it when artists have paid some attention to actual wing anatomy beforehand. I've seen way too many anatomically impossible wings on creatures - I like my aliens and fantasy creatures to at least obey a few laws of nature. :D

Thanks!
Not really inspired by Giger in the sense of wanting to emulate parts of his style, though I do appreciate his work and own two books on his artwork.
I have a story in my head, and these automatons are a key part of it. I also have an affinity for segments, tendrils, women, and so on.
Thanks!

I know exactly what you mean!
I think it is not so important that wings work or conform more to real wings as much as it can't be so wrong as to pull you out of your suspension of disbelief.

Exactly that! If I can't imagine a skeleto-muscular structure - something visually aware people do instinctively, without actually mapping it out, I think - that could support the soft tissue and external structures, then it doesn't work for me, it disrupts that suspension of disbelief.

Very nice, not so much an insect as a crustacean, and the red glints in the eyes are striking.

Even more so when I flick the highlight layer on and off.
It was fun to paint. I think the concept has potential. But it needs more work. This is actually a cropping of the image. It is a full body concept.

I don't have a strong image in my mind's eye because I don't remember that many details about you physically. I only really know what you thoughts are on certain topics.
Also, of the people I have met after having extended correspondence via internet, none of those people very closely matched the physical impression I had of them. I have learned to keep a blank slate placeholder for people I haven't met.

I tried to get the background to look vaguely like burning things, but I don't think it comes across very well. Certainly not as well as the clawed character. The shading isn't quite as good either. Its got potential though. Still trying to get these things to print quality. Passive income is a nice thing... if enough people like them enough to buy them enough for me to print them cheaply enough for it to be a low enough price for people to buy them. Haha. And I need more of them.

Well, this marks a very significant milestone for me. I haven't been able to do any kind of significant drawing since the loss of my friend. ...until now. This is the first thing I have created since the 12th of April. It is nothing related or specific to coping with the loss, but it is something.
I might be able to start on a drawing of her, now.

It's quite a relief for those of us who struggle to draw anything beyond the most rudimentary doodle, when someone of considerable ability says something like this.

It should comfort you further to know that, even with my ability and the many years I have been drawing, I still make MANY bad drawings I wouldn't want to show anyone for every good drawing that I don't mind people seeing.
I struggle through those rudimentary doodles, too. :)

Lol!
Take a look at these drawings, made by Michelangelo while he spent three months hiding (really really well!) from a furious and bloodthirsty Pope Clement (scroll down for drawings, but it's a fascinating bit of history too, worth reading):

Of course, these are drawings by Michelangelo, so of course they are pretty amazing, but you can see how he developed sketches, how he made sketches that he essentially abandoned as false starts whereas others became more realised studies.

I did my first figure drawing session in years, yesterday. I started out very wobbly and lacking confidence, but as the session went on, I started to feel that old groove again. I ended up having a blast.
These are a few of the drawings I made.
