I would be comfortable climbing it is I was fit enough.

Unless you were a very light weight person you are going to fall, not fly off.

:christyes: They would have on a full body rig. Same as you wear on a roof, parachuting or in an old fashion order picker.

They slip off and all the weight is going to be on that carabiner and the body rig.

As I said, unless you are a child there will be a lot of weight holding you in place. Your whole body.

It looks like they have two carabiners securely attached to the rig so one is always attached to a lug while they are moving the other up.

MSG could explain the set up better than me but it is very safe.
Like how tree climbers fellers, lumberjacks etc work their way up safely up a tree.

Gravity will keep the climber on, even with the small uppy-bits; the hoop needs to travel up before it comes off, so even a bit of weight will be enough. But the hoop still has to be removed to get it to the nest stage, and a bigger uppy-bit would make that awkward.

Even if they were, you have to consider there is 80-odd KG of human hanging off the ropes which will serve to keep the carabiners on the hooks. That will need an enormously powerful wind strength to lift the person up off the hooks.

The role of the upward protrusion on the end of each hook is to stop the carabiners sliding off sideways. Gravity will do the work in the vertical direction.

fair enough. i know that gravity will do most of the work, and pull vertically.

and i suppose when it all comes down to it.. if the hook were not able to keep the carabiners at hold... it would *only* be due to ridiculously powerful winds.

there must be an equation that deals with how much wind force it takes to counteract a person's weight + their gravity pull.

yes, but it would be quite a complex calculation because it's not just wind strength, because the wind direction is also primarily lateral. so it would be about swirling gusts or pressure differentials creating a local updraft (a very powerful one)
