(2012). "What do we need to know about speciation?" Trends in ecology & evolution (Personal edition) 27(1): 27-39.
Speciation has been a major focus of evolutionary biology research in recent years, with many important advances. However, some of the traditional organising principles of the subject area no longer provide a satisfactory framework, such as the classification of speciation mechanisms by geographical context into allopatric, parapatric and sympatry classes. Therefore, we have asked where speciation research should be directed in the coming years. Here, we present a distillation of questions about the mechanisms of speciation, the genetic basis of speciation and the relationship between speciation and diversity. Our list of topics is not exhaustive; rather we aim to promote discussion on research priorities and on the common themes that underlie disparate speciation processes.

Quite a nice little review of speciation, but does not cover the role of parasites.

Thanks for posting that. I'm reading Why Evolution is True, and coincidentally, I just finished the section on speciation. This paper gives me a better idea of the state of the science. I have only a rudimentary education in biology, so I also appreciate that it's comprehensible to the lay reader.

Is there a ^Your Posts^ link? page 1

Or, an equally easy way to check for subsequent replies to threads I've posted to? oblivion 14th January 2012, 02:49 AM you can see your posts and threads you've started. If you click your name at the right top of the page, you'll go to your profile page. there is a statistics tab. click that and you'll see links to your recent (last 1000) posts and recent threads you've started. Oh, and on a tangent: Can polls be configured to allow revoting? vanilla vbulletin doesn't have a member-vote-change feature. admins can change the vote tally if a person requests, but it's a manual thing and only affects the count, not the record of who voted for what. I found a vbulletin hack that allows members to change their votes. It also lets people write-in their own poll options and vote for it. When setting up the poll, it looks like the OPer can decide whether to enable vote-changing or not.
